Luddington Village Fund.
The Village Fund was set up to raise money for charities by putting on events in the village for the village.
This year the charities that we are supporting are :
Cancer charities - Macmillan and Arden Cancer Care (the local cancer charity based at the University Hospital in Coventry)
All Saints Church
Thank you letters from the charities can be found here -
The events for the year are:
Carols on the Village Green are a favourite village way to start Christmas. We are joined on the Green by the Shipston Town Band at 7.45pm on Christmas Eve, for singing and mulled wine
Jazz in the Field This was held on June 4th and this year the musical entertainment was provided by the Red Dragons jazz group.
A cold, windy, but very enjoyable evening was had by those in the field - and the music was good too!
The Village Fete
This is a traditional village fete where the whole community pulls together to make a very enjoyable day. This year the fete was held on July 24th, the fine weather helped make the day a great success and a healthy profit was made for this years' chosen charities
The Flower Show
The 2011 Flower Show was held on Sunday August 21st. The flower show attracted as many entries as last year and was a great success. There were more flowers in the hall than had been seen in the village for a long time - and you should have see the size of the winning marrow. A couple of the men in the village were in trouble for having eaten the longest runner bean - so we will never know who really had grown the longest!!
Many thanks to all those who raided their gardens for exhibits, and to the judges for being impartial and making sure that Dick did not win the best dahlia class!
With 260 entries and 52 participants, the 2010 Luddington Flower Show was one of the most successful ever. In spite of the poor growing conditions the quality of the entries was high and this contributed to what turned out to be a much enjoyed social event in the Luddington calendar. The Village Hall looked and smelled wonderful. Both flower and vegetable classes were well supported and Luddington soils seem particularly good for growing runner beans, tomatoes and dahlias, although roses were in short supply this year owing to the dry season. The Luddington Village Fund Committee would like to thank all those who helped, exhibited or just dropped by in the afternnon to enjoy the show, and remind you that now is the time to think about getting ready for next year’s show!
Luddington Village Fund Report
The Flower Show made a very fitting end to what has been a successful year for all our fund raising events. Jazz in the Field in June and the Annual Fete in July were both well attended and enjoyed and, thanks to the generosity of local people, we have been able to send cheques for £2,000 to each of this year’s charities, Help for Heroes and the Fabric Fund for All Saints’ Church. This is a fine testament to everyone who has helped with and supported the Village Fund events over 2010, so thank you and please remember to come and join us for our last event of the year, Carols on the Green on Christmas Eve.
